フェンダー兄弟ブランドであるスクワイアより、新しく“Contemporary”シリーズが発表された。本格的なフィーリングとスタイルを追求したこのシリーズは、スリムなCシェイプのメイプル・ネックや、チョーキングなどスムーズなフィンガリングを可能にする305Rの指板、ジャンボ・フレットなど、弾きやすさにこだわっている。いずれも時代を超えて愛される伝統的スタイルを踏襲しつつ、弾きやすさやパワフルなトーンを併せ持ち、特にテクニカル派ギタリストにとっては秘密兵器となる革新的なシリーズだ。その“現代的”な5機種をラインナップを紹介しよう。
「Contemporary Stratocaster HH」は、セラミックのハムバッカー2基を搭載しており、パワフルなトーンが魅力。リズム・ギターの刻みや激しいソロ・プレイにもピッタリだ。また、ゼブラ・パターンのハムバッカーや、ボディとヘッドを同じカラーで統一したマッチング・ヘッドなど、高級感漂うルックスはステージでオーディエンスの視線を集めること間違いなし。カラーは、パール・ホワイト、ダーク・メタリック・レッド、ブラック・メタリックの3種類。

「Contemporary Stratocaster HH Left-Handed」は、左利き用モデル。「Contemporary Stratocaster HH」と同様のスペックを採用した、演奏性の高いパワフルなサウンドを実現するストラトキャスターだ。そもそも左利き用モデルはそれほど数が多くないため、こちらは嬉しい選択肢となりそう。カラーはブラック・メタリックのみとなっている。
